DEAFestival 2009, Los Angeles
Los Angeles City Councilmember Tony Cárdenas, along with the Los Angeles City Council, proclaimed September 2009 as "Deaf Awareness Month" in order to generate greater awareness on the talents and abilities of the deaf and hard-of-hearing community.
To celebrate Deaf Awareness Month in 2009, Councilman Cárdenas, in partnership with the Cultural Affairs Department, the Department on Disability, Department of Recreation and Parks, Friends of the Family, California Association of the Deaf, Greater Los Angeles Agency on Deafness, California State University Northridge, and the National Center on Deafness, are hosting DEAFestival Los Angeles on Saturday, September 26, 2009 from 12:00 noon to 5:00 P.M. at Woodley Park, 6350 Woodley Avenue, Van Nuys, CA.
We would like to personally invite you to join us in helping to make the annual "DEAFestival Los Angeles" a truly memorable event in the entire City. This year, a new and exciting show was added to the program: Deaf Got Talent, which will be an ensemble of different individuals who are Deaf, Hard-of-Hearing, and Deaf-Blind who will present their talent before three judges and an audience of hundreds. The Grand Prize winner will be awarded $1,000 in cash with the second-place and third- place winners also being recognized and awarded a prize.
The competition is open to all individuals who are Deaf, Hard-of-Hearing, and Deaf-Blind residing in the Greater Los Angeles and we invite you to participate. To qualify for the competition, each performer is required to submit the attached entry form. Any entry that does not meet these guidelines will not be considered in the competition. The deadline for mail-in entries or electronic submissions is July 15, 2009. After receiving your entry form, the DEAFestival Committee will send you a confirmation within two weeks of receiving your entry, either by e-mail (preferred) or US mail.
